Thoughts on Conscience

I've had a few conversations recently with several people about matters of conscience. From the entertainment we consume to the words we say, it's amazing how much there really can be to ponder.
I even find myself questioning my own convictions to a slight degree.
But one thing I can say with absolute conviction is that the Bible is our guide in all matters of life and godliness.
I think one of the major takeaways I've gotten from these conversations is that much of it is a matter of conscience.
While there are certainly strict lines that we must not cross, beyond that, it looks different for different people.
But, of course, another factor that is vitally important to remember is that even if it's "okay" for you, it doesn't mean that it is for others, something Paul speaks about in the later chapters of Romans, for example.
This is where we have to use discernment when dealing with various opinions on certain topics.
But I think that, for this short blog, I'll say that it's so important for us to have grace as well as love, and that is something we won't muster up ourselves.
But it's also important that we undergird it with the truth of God's word. We can shore things up by taking part in the ordinary means of grace, such as prayer and fellowship with believers.
Can we be challenged without becoming angry and defensive? Can we defend our position with Scripture (rightly handled)?
Or are we looking for a fight? Are we just echoing what we've been told and what resonates with us?
Just some food for thought as this week closes out, and as we gather tomorrow on the Lord's day, should He tarry.
