Monday Share: Preaching for Content Creation

We live in a really strange era. Never in my younger years had I thought that "content creator" would be a viable job option. And yet, here we are, and I find myself seeking to be some form of creator myself.
But it's a tricky business, especially when you're dealing with the things of God.
Scripture makes it very clear that we ought not peddle the word of God for money. Yet, Paul also explains that the worker is worth his wages.
So, doing Christian content creation for money can live on a very fine line.
Even when searching for content to share today, I find I'm reading not for myself but to share. In other words, it's easy for it to be more about my own content creation than it is my personal growth. A very convicting thought indeed.
So, confession aside, this danger is expanded even more within the context of a local church. With social media, the virality of talking points and profound catch-phrases can turn pastors into something more akin to an 80's action hero with their one-liners, than to Paul.
In today's share, Tim Challies expounds on this idea, on the dangers of churches being more about creating content than they are discipling the people of God.
Of course, in most cases, I suspect these churches have good intentions. But good intentions do not necessarily equal what's right.
To close, I believe there is an application even to the household and one's private devotions. Not every gospel conversation needs to be publicized, nor every study put on social media. Be careful not to do your good works to be seen by men (Matthew 6:1).
This is definitely food for thought, and I hope you find it helpful.
