So, is Alice Cooper Really a Christian?

I admit, this is not the typical content I cover at Upward Focus, but bear with me.

Right or wrong, growing up with a dad who played rock music in his heyday, unsurprisingly I, too, grew up on some classic rock. I remember many evening drives where the radio was tuned to "Nights with Alice Cooper."

Since I have that childhood memory, I've always wondered, amidst his conservative talking points and claims of his Christian faith, if Alice Cooper really is a Christian. Unbeknownst to me, apparently Alice Cooper wrote a biography!

Tim Challies shared his thoughts on the matter here, after having read Cooper's book.

I have to agree with Tim's conclusions, though I haven't read the book. I definitely don't know Alice Cooper, so I can't know his heart at all. But it's hard to deny that much of his life's work, even what he does now, is contrary to Scripture. That's cause for concern and prayer, even pointed questions, not hate and condemnation. In the incredibly off chance that Cooper read this, I hope he'd understand this comes from a spirit of love and respect, not an attitude of judgement.

So, if he is a believer, then we should pray that God would draw him away from worldly things, and continue to direct his life. If he's not, then may we pray that God would draw him into a true saving relationship with Him.

It also raises a question for any Christian in the limelight—am I going to let my public testimony be defined by Christ? Convicting thought, for sure.

Lastly, it raises another question: how should believers talk about celebrities—Christian or not? Does our testimony mirror what we expect of them?
