Autumn is in the Air

It's getting a bit chilly outside around here. Okay, forty-nine isn't that cold, but it's a clear sign that fall is here. Leaves are starting to change, and the air is crisp and clear.
It's a strange time of the year, if you ask me. On one hand, it's when nature starts to close down for winter. Leaves fall, bugs go somewhere (I honestly have no idea what happens to all of the little insects), birds migrate, and the days are shorter. Yet, I feel like it's a time of so much life.
The end of the year brings with it so much activity. School is back in session, of course, but many other events fill our calendars. It is as if our lives get fuller in some way. It's a strange contrast.
You may recall that I get a bit sentimental each season. As the seasons change, I think there are a lot of things we can think about. It's a time of reflection, I suppose.
But as we shift gears, it can be a time when we forget those deeper things.
School, end-of-year projects, even fall house cleaning as we get ready for the holidays—Can all cause us to lose focus on the most important thing: our walk with Christ.
To paraphrase Martin Luther: I have so much to do today (or, you could add, this season) that I must pray another two or three hours.
So, as the leaves fall and fade, don't let your time with God do the same. Simple enough.
